Shelli is a nationally certified and licensed mental health counselor who completed her Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology from Antioch University Seattle and her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, with a Minor in Sociology from Western Washington University. Since 1993, she has provided supportive and empowering counseling to older adolescents and adults. Shelli has worked in management and direct service counseling positions within a variety of clinical settings including an acute psychiatric hospital, private practice, community mental health agencies, and non-profit crisis response and domestic violence organizations. Additionally, Shelli has taught counseling skills to Masters level psychology students as a teacher at a local Seattle area University.
Shelli's clinical philosophy is that each person has the potential to achieve his/her/their goals and desired life - once motivation is present. Through supportive and individual psychotherapy, Shelli works with clients to assist them in identifying their goals and continuing to develop and implement strategies for achieving their goals in the therapeutic setting. Exploring any barriers to growth will help to facilitate change and enable clients to meet those goals.
Shelli's interest in neuroscience, helps clients create awareness to the connection between interoceptive awareness and subsequent ability to learn to regulate their emotional responses to stress. https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.00798
